The "Engine Man's" Dream Journal
Dreams can be creative. The drawings at right come from the 1930s dream journal of a careful reporter whom Hobson calls the "Engine Man."
Top: A desk belonging to a fat man dressed only in a shirt resembling a hospital gown. "Along the back of the desk is fastened an index system of his own invention enabling him to find current quotations almost instantly," apparently a precursor of today's desk-top computer.
Middle: A bicycle built for two, with the bachelor dreamer driving and a space available for a companion.
Bottom: A car stopped on an unfinished bridge, where the temporary bridge constructed as a stop-gap is lower and must be reached by means of a large plank.
