Vocational Explorations
There are few better ways for undergraduates to learn more about prospective careers than by taking advantage of the many internship and externship programs available through the Harvard and Radcliffe alumni associations. The Radcliffe Externship Program, now in its twentieth year, matches undergraduate women with alumnae for the week of spring break; by literally "shadowing" the older women at home and on the jobs, the students learn about both sides of their mentors' lives. Harvard Career Internships, run by the Office of Career Services in conjunction with the Harvard Alumni Association, also seeks to match up undergraduates and alumni for career exploration during a working assignment over spring break. In addition, the Student Employment Office runs a program for summer internships that enables alumni around the country who may be looking for summer help to post job descriptions at the College in any number of ways. Read on for further details.

To find out how to get involved with Harvard Career Internships, even if you aren't able to offer a formal internship, e-mail Nancy Saunders at "nesaund@fas.harvard.edu" or call (617) 495-2595. January 6 is the deadline for posting an internship that will be included in the Office of Career Services catalog.

To post a paid or unpaid summer internship, contact the Student Employment Office, Byerly Hall, 8 Garden Street, Cambridge 02138, call (617) 495-8422, or visit the SEO's website at "https://www.seo.harvard.edu". All positions posted on the website are also posted on the SEO's bulletin boards. Please make sure to identify yourself as an alumnus.

1996 HAA Award Citations
Most of the winners of the 1996 HAA Alumni Awards were publicly acknowledged, with the following citations, on October 31, at the opening dinner of the HAA Directors' fall meeting. Frank Boas received his award earlier in October.
Claire Richardson Bennett '49, Ds '48-'49. Landscape architect, President of the Radcliffe and Harvard Clubs of Indiana, and Regional Director of the Harvard Alumni and Radcliffe College Alumnae Associations, your loyal commitment has shaped both Harvard and Radcliffe Yards.

Frank Boas '51, J.D. '54. Wise counsel and generous supporter of Harvard's international aspirations, you have strengthened mutual understanding among nations through the educational exchange of students, scholars, speakers, and leaders.

James R. Donovan '54, M.B.A. '56. Energetic leader of six different Harvard or Harvard Business School Clubs, Chair of the HAA Clubs Committee, and Regional Director of the HAA, you have served Harvard with distinction from New York to Missouri, from Massachusetts to Florida.

Walter F. Greeley '53, LL.B. '60. Class leader, HAA Elected Director, and President of the Harvard Varsity Club, your dedicated service to Harvard's Fund, athletic fields, and fellow alumni has been both wide and deep.

Mary Blue Magruder-Hurwitch '69. Radcliffe Class President, Class Agent, and Reunion Cochair, you wrote the book on joint reunions, serving Harvard and Radcliffe with good spirits, devotion, and organizational skill.

Robert N. Shapiro '72, J.D. '78. HAA President and graduate of two Cambridges, you have never allowed your studies to interfere with your education, nor your many duties to daunt your love of Harvard. Your endless service to this University is in keeping with the highest traditions of the Harvard Alumni Association.

Comings and Goings
The New England winter is gearing up, but some faculty members and administrators are lucky enough to travel to more hospitable climes. Here's a selected list of Harvard club events.

On November 7, Provost Al Carnesale travels to the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of San Francisco. The Harvard Club of Long Island hosts senior lecturer in English and novelist Richard Marius on November 13 and the director of the Schlesinger Library, Mary Maples Dunn, on November 14. Radcliffe president Linda Wilson speaks to the Harvard-Radcliffe Club of New Mexico in Albuquerque on November 16. Professor of landscape architecture Michael Van Valkenburgh speaks at the Harvard Club of New York City on November 18. Professor of business administration Warren McFarlan calls on the Harvard Club of Georgia on November 21. December 7 is a day of symposia at the Harvard Club of Boston. Participants include biographer Doris Kearns-Goodwin, professor of comparative religion Diana Eck, ichthyologist Karel Liem, historian Richard Pipes, and professor of English James Engell. Luise Vosgerchian, pianist and professor of music emerita, stops by the Harvard Club of Montreal on December 12.

RCAA Special Event
On November 13, noted Shakespearean director Tina Packer, BI '94-'95, leads a master acting class at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles from 6 to 9 p.m. Registration is required. Call 495-8641.
