Jazz Reunion

The Harvard Jazz Band celebrated its twenty-fifth anniversary April 12 with the help of a good many friends. The legendary swing tenor saxophonist Illinois Jacquet, who was artist in residence in 1983, came to Harvard for his eighth visit to join the band for a gala concert in Sanders Theatre. Among band alumni performing were tenor saxophonist Don Braden '85, who brought along a big-band arrangement of his tune "Landing Zone," and baritone saxophonist Fred Ho '79, composer of the opera A Chinaman's Chance and the 1987 Peter Ivers visiting artist at Harvard. Reunioning musicians started the day with a panel discussion of "Jazz at Harvard and Beyond" and took in "Mood Crimson," an exhibition of photographs, manuscripts, and memorabilia (at the Loeb Music Library through September).
