Selecting Retirement Housing is a solid overview of the various types of retirement housing currently available, with a special emphasis on continuing-care retirement communities. The Eldercare Locator, operated by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, provides information on housing and other services. Call (800) 677-1116.

The U.S. Administration on Aging is a federal agency that helps people locate long-term care services. Each state also has a unit on aging that offers free information on services available to older people. The Directory of State and Area Agencies on Aging is available at public libraries. Each state agency can refer you to a long-term care ombudsman for help with specific needs.
