Comings and Goings

Harvard clubs host lectures, seminars, and social gatherings. Following is a partial list of Harvard-affiliated speakers appearing at local club events this spring. For details, contact the club directly, call the HAA at 617-495-3070, or visit www.haa.harvard.edu.

On March 5, the Harvard Club of Central and Eastern Kentucky welcomes Ali Asani, professor of the practice of Indo-Muslim languages and cultures, for a discussion of "The Rise of Anti-Western Movements in the Islamic World." Professor Asani will also speak to the Harvard Club of Central and Southeastern Ohio on March 6. In New York City, on March 14, a Graduate School of Arts and Sciences Chapter event examines "The Welfare State in Europe and the United States: Why Are They So Different?" with Alberto Alesina, Ropes professor of political economy (see "Down and Out in Paris and Boston," January-February, page 14). On March 22, George Cabot Lodge, Chua Tiampo professor of business administration emeritus, talks about "Globalization" for the Harvard Club of Naples (Florida).

On April 4, a GSAS Chapter event in Southern California features professor of art and art history Henri Zerner and a lecture on "Portrait, Likeness, and Recognition." Loeb professor of classical art David Mitten examines "Classical Art and Archaeology" on April 6 for members of the Harvard Club of Dayton (Ohio). In North Carolina, on April 13, the Harvard Club of the Research Triangle offers "Just Enough: Tools for Creating Success in Your Work and Life" with Howard Stevenson, senior associate provost for Harvard University Resources and Planning and Sarofim-Rock professor of business administration at Harvard Business School.
