On October 23, at the opening dinner of the HAA Directors meeting, the recipients of the 1997 HAA Awards were honored for their extraordinary alumni service with the following citations.
Douglass M. Carver '59. A New England Yankee in Lafayette's Court, you have brought France closer to Harvard, leading the way across the Atlantic and back again.
F. Sargent Cheever '32, M.D. '36. Physician, Overseer, and valuable visitor to Harvard's Medical and Dental Schools, you always served us faithfully and well, making Harvard's family your own. [Cheever died on September 19.]
Herschel L. Langenthal '50, M.B.A. '53. Vigorous champion of our mid-sized clubs, you have reached out to students and alumni alike, introducing them to the Harvard Alumni Association and the joy of alumni service.
Warren "Renny" M. Little '55. Cambridge historian and Harvard College class scribe, you are happiest at Commencement, leading students and alumni from "the age that is past to the age that is waiting before."
Champ Lyons Jr. '62. HAA President and backbone of the Harvard Club of Mobile, you are Harvard's home in Alabama, representing the best of Harvard with warmth and wit.
Rosalinda Reynolds Ratajczak '66. Chair of the HAA National Schools and Scholarships Committee and first woman president of the Harvard Club of Georgia, your service to Harvard and Radcli!=e has been marked by breadth and deep devotion.
