Thirty years after their presumed commencement of life in the real world, 24 members of the class of 1967 are still here. Of the group, nine are local physicians who hold appointments at University teaching hospitals; they are chronically but not acutely concerned with alma mater. But 15 classmates are fully employed at the old place.
Among the persisters of '67 (some of whom made fleeting appearances elsewhere over the years) are three deans and a provost. Roger P. Cheever '67, M.L.A. '77, is associate dean for development in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. Thomas A. Dingman '67, Ed.M. '75, is associate dean of Harvard College. William R. Fitzsimmons '67, Ed.D. '71, is dean of admissions and financial aid for Harvard and Radcliffe Colleges. And Harvey V. Fineberg '67, M.D. and M.P.P. '72, Ph.D. '80, former dean of the School of Public Health, is now the University's provost.
Other lingerers include Gerard F. Denault, associate director of the freshman seminar program; Garry Emmons, senior associate editor of the Harvard Business School Bulletin; John F. O'Keefe, museum coordinator at the Harvard Forest; Richard M. Olken, general manager of Harvard Student Agencies; Richard P. Rogers, associate director of the Film Study Center; and David H. Rose, lecturer on education.
When asked to account for the continued presence on campus of himself and these others, Dean Fitzsimmons suggested sloppy work on the part of his predecessor in admissions, Fred L. Glimp '50, Ph.D. '64, who was in charge when the class of '67 was admitted.
