Four years into the University Campaign, Robert G. Stone '45, Senior Fellow of the Harvard Corporation, told the annual HAA meeting that he detected "no diminution in the spirit of giving" among alumni, whose participation is "helping to shape the future of this great University." He offered the following evidence.
The class of '73 led the way; their $16.6 million jumped 60 percent above any previous twenty-fifth-reunion gift. The class of '93, with $491,000, set a fifth-reunion record. The class of '88's $3,998,000 doubled the previous tenth-reunion record. The class of '58 set a fortieth-reunion record: $10,400,000. The fiftieth reunioners of 1948, who gave $8 million plus, boasted a participation rate above 70 percent. But the class of '38 did best of all. Their sixtieth-reunion gift participation rate hit 90.56 percent.
