Well Done!

The HAA Awards, established in 1990, recognize those who provide outstanding volunteer service to Harvard through alumni activities. The 1999 recipients will be honored on October 28, during the annual fall meeting of the HAA board of directors.

Richard (Rab) Harris '37 has held every office from secretary to president of the Harvard Club of Akron during his 40-year membership. He has also chaired its schools and scholarships committee, overseeing presentations of Harvard Prize Books to promising high-school juniors, and has masterminded monthly club luncheons for more than 20 years.

Sheridan A. Logan '23, of St. Joseph, Missouri, who turns 99 this year, has been treasurer of his class since their graduation; last year he cochaired the seventy-fifth reunion. The former treasurer of the Harvard Club of New York City has also been an HAA director and served on the visiting committee to the department of psychology and social relations.

William E. Markus '60, of Pittsburgh, who cochaired his class's thirty-fifth reunion, has also chaired the HAA's chief-marshal selection committee, been vice-chair of its classes and reunions committee, and served on the nominating committee for Overseers and HAA directors. Besides service as an HAA regional director, he spent three years as HAA secretary.

Glen D. Nelson '59, M.D., of Long Lake, Minnesota, is not only the long-time host of the local Harvard club's annual picnic, but also an active volunteer for the Harvard College Fund and the Committee on University Resources. In addition, he cochairs the subcommittee on science education for an FAS advisory council.

Ellen G. Reeves '83, Ed.M. '86, 0f New York City, who received the Radcliffe College Alumnae Association's Distinguished Service Award in 1998, is secretary of her class and the first woman president of the Harvard class secretaries' association. A former HAA elected director, she chairs the HAA Radcliffe-Harvard Committee and is president of the Radcliffe Club of New York.

James R. Ullyot '62, M.B.A. '66, of Minneapolis, a former president of the Harvard Club of Minnesota and HAA regional director, was a major force behind production of the short film widely used by the admissions office and local clubs to introduce Harvard to prospective students. The HAA's website and e-mail services (see "Next Up On-line") owe much to his electronic expertise.

This year, a special HAA Award will also be presented to the Harvard University Band--surely the most ubiquitous presence at alumni events. The band is celebrating its eightieth birthday.
