Office for Faculty Development and Diversity Reports on Faculty Composition, New Family Supports for Harvard Staff

The office, created in 2005 after the Task Forces on Women Faculty and on Women in Science and Engineering issued their reports, has published the first detailed data comparing the proportion of women and minority faculty members at each Harvard school to that at peer institutions. The office has also made commitments to enhance work-life programs for faculty, doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, and staff by: expanding the number of childcare slots; increasing childcare scholarships and operating support for childcare centers; funding junior faculty members' needs for support as they undertake research and professional travel; and establishing minimum standards, University-wide, for maternity/parental leave for faculty members with new children. A summary [external link] of the report and recommendations, with links to the complete documents is online. The full report can be found at the new Faculty Affairs website [external link]. A detailed article on the report and recommendations will appear in the September-October Harvard Magazine.
