Shared Interest Group events

News from Shared Interest Groups

The harvard alumni association has approved more than 20 Shared Interest Groups; a complete list appears at https://post.harvard.edu/harvard/clubs/html/SIGdir.shtml. Harvard Magazine invites SIG officers to share news of their groups’ activities in this space. (Send items to classnotes@harvard.edu, using SIG in the “class year” line.)

Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs

Among its various programs, Harvard Alumni Entrepreneurs hosts an annual reception at reunion time for the benefit of our more distant alumni. We invite like-minded creative alumni to a wine-and-cheese reception on Saturday, May 29, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Straus Hall Common Room. This is an opportunity to meet, swap war stories, and generally unwind in a social setting. For details about HAE and this gathering, visit www.harvardalumnientrepreneurs.org.

Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus

The guest speaker at the annual Harvard Gay and Lesbian Caucus Commencement dinner will be Anthony C. Woods, MP.P. ’08, a West Point graduate who was discharged from the army under the “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy after serving two tours of duty in Iraq. Woods delivered the Graduate English Address at Commencement two years ago (see “Q&A,” July-August 2008, page 54), and subsequently initiated his own dismissal from the military by publicly acknowledging his homosexuality (see “Anthony Woods: Taking a Stand,” January-February 2009, page 74). For details on the dinner, visit https://hglc.org.

Harvardwood

On May 12, Harvardwood presents its first New York City food event: “The Pleasures of High-End Artisanal ‘Hard’ Ciders.” This dinner will be a landmark in the revival of great cider, the first event of its type in New York, and the DTA’s gifted chef, Anthony LoCastro, has devised a mouthwatering menu to mark the occasion. Come taste and discuss half a dozen of the greatest new “hard” artisanal ciders, produced by some of the world’s greatest cidermakers. For details, visit www.harvardwood.org/event/hardciderFeb10.

And don’t forget! It’s our fourth annual Harvardwood Reunion Mixer, in Cambridge on May 29. Join Greater Boston-based Harvardwood members, folks in town for reunion week, and current students for food, drink, and general merriment! RSVP recommended at www.harvardwood.org/events/event_details.asp?id=102492
