Harvard president-elect Drew Gilpin Faust made her first decanal appointment today, naming computer scientist Barbara J. Grosz, Higgins professor of natural sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences' School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, interim dean of the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study, effective July 1, 2007. Faust, dean of the Radcliffe Institute, assumes the University presidency on that date. Grosz has been the Radcliffe Institute's dean of science; in 2005, she chaired the University task force on Women in Science and Engineering (see "Engineering Equity," July-August 2005).
