Hunn Award Winners

The Hiram S. Hunn Memorial Schools and Scholarships Award honors alumni for dedicated service on local Harvard College schools and scholarships committees. The awards commemorate Hiram Hunn '21, who recruited students in Iowa and Vermont for 55 years. This year's honorees represent, collectively, more than two centuries of labor. They are:

Walter C. Klein '39, of Summit, New Jersey, whose contributions include acting as a music critic for an applicant who insisted on playing the violin during the interview; Michael G. Yamin'53 of New York City, who has been an active recruiter for more than 40 years and began introducing students to Harvard as a member of the Crimson Key Society; Ann E. Choate '57, of Scotia, New York, an avid interviewer who has recruited applicants for both Radcliffe and Harvard since the mid 1970s; William P. Conklin '57, of Great Falls, Montana, who has traveled throughout his state to visit applicants ranging from an itinerant tuba player and bee keeper to a promising student who ended up as a lawyer arguing against Conklin in court;Patricia Cleary Miller '61, of Kansas City, Missouri, who began traveling wherever necessary to seek out Radcliffe applicants decades ago and is still recruiting students for Harvard; and Mary Ann Wark '69, of Falcon Heights, Minnesota, president of the Harvard Club of Minnesota, which recently produced a video used by the admissions office to recruit students around the world. Their awards will be presented November 3, during the Harvard Alumni Association's fall meeting.
