Harvard Commencement week 2013: events for Wednesday, May 29

ROTC commissioning and numerous Class Day celebrations, including speeches by O’Brien, Moore, Wurman, and more

EVENTS FOR Wednesday, May 29, include:

  • ROTC commissioning with President Drew Faust and the guest speaker, Lieutenant Colonel David R. Downer ’63 (U.S. Air Force, now retired). While scheduled for 11:30 A.M. in Tercentenary Theatre, the ROTC event was relocated indoors to Fong Auditorium in Boylston Hall.
  • The Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS) will celebrate the Centennial Medalists at a luncheon.
  • Harvard College Class Day will begin at 2 P.M. in Tercentenary Theatre, with student speeches and an address by CNN Special Correspondent Soledad O’Brien ’88. The ceremony will be broadcast live on WHRB (audio) and harvard.edu (video).
  • Geoffrey Canada, Ed.M. ’75, L.H.D. ’01, president and CEO of the Harlem Children’s Zone, will give the Kennedy School's Commencement address at 2 P.M. in the JFK Jr. Forum. 
  • CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin ’82, J.D. ’86 will speak at Harvard Law School’s Class Day ceremony at 2:30 P.M. on Holmes Field. 
  • The Business School will celebrate Class Day with a speech by with guest speaker Ann Moore, M.B.A. ’78, former chairman and chief executive officer of Time, Inc. The ceremony will take place at 2:30 P.M. on Baker Lawn. 
  • The Graduate School of Education's convocation will take place at 3 P.M. in Radcliffe Yard, with civil-rights leader James Meredith as speaker.
  • Architect, graphic designer, and creator of the TED conference Richard Saul Wurman will address Graduate School of Design degree candidates at 4 P.M. in Gund Hall.
